The Month That Was: Aug 2024

August was a busy and hectic month - weekdays or otherwise. The days went past by with a blink of an eye. The first half of the month kept me occupied with preparing for an audit at work. The second half was more dedicated towards the community events - Supabase Meetup and ServerlessDays Bengaluru. In the middle of all these busy days, I somehow managed to sneak in an impromptu trip to Dharwad.

Trip to Dharwad

While the trip to Dharwad was on the cards for a long time, I was not sure when that would happen. Uncertainty was completely dependent on the rain. The main objective of this trip was to visit Dudhsagar falls. With the rain subsiding, in the last hour I booked a train to Dharwad. Unfortunately, Dudhsagar visit didn’t happen because soon after reaching Dharward I got to know that all the trains that take us to the train station closer to Dudhsagar were cancelled for the next two days to track repairs. I utilized this time to visit Gokak Falls, Godachinmalki Falls and then visit to Kamal Basadi in Belagavi.

While missing Dudhsagar was a bit disappointing, I also managed to pay a flying visit to Ramadurga to visit a colleague. The town is surrounded by hills in all directions. As I rode up to town, I fell in love at first sight with the area. I would definitely go their again to spend some quality time. Another additional bonus was I got to experience the Vande Bharath train.

Supabase Meetup and ServerlessDays Bengaluru

We at AntStack had the privilege of hosting the first ever Bengaluru edition of Supabase meetup. The meetup event Aug 17th was attended by about 25 people, networking and sharing our experiences, learnings. Two weeks later, I volunteered at the second edition of ServerlessDays Bengaluru. This year's edition was nothing like the last year's. This was my first experience in volunteering in such a huge event. I got an opportunity to meet Sheen Brisals and Eric Johnson during the event.

Reading and watching

After a long time, I managed to read a book. I read S. L. Bhyrappa's "Bhimakaya" (ಭೀಮಕಾಯ), one of his early works. The story is set in the 1950's and revolves around Subbu, an ambitious wrestler (Pailwan). Immedeately after finishing this, I picked up 'Anchu' and I couldn't go beyond 40 pages. I've put the book aside for now and in the hunt for a new one. I finally managed to watch season three of Panchayat. It was kind of disappointing if I compare to the previous season. While the Panchayat team has mastered the art of blending a mundane daily routine with some wacky twists, the third season didn't live up to my expectations. Faisal Malik (Prahlad Pandey) steals the season just like in the last two episodes of season two.

August has come to an end and looking forward to see what's in store in September.

August was very August!
